While on the sidewalk, I passed a grackle feather, flattened, with a cricket now integrated through pressure and time. This preossified fossil will either become part of the landscape, like the gum above it, or wash away, like the chalk drawing no longer really beside it.

Three grackles perched on a power line, crowed all at once and then fell silent as I walked under. The largest turned its head and followed my walk past them and around the corner. The smallest dropped acorns which struck the ground in unison with my left foot at my every-other pace.

As I walked North along the sidewalk of Red River Street, looking for North Facing Portents, a yellow leaf moved West to East across my path, fluttering and landed between the shadow and a line between pavement pads.
